ISAC launches a redesigned website built to make it easier to explore our research, collections, publications, programs, and the people who make them possible.

Launching officially on September 28, 2026, the redesigned site brings together the many dimensions of ISAC—from archaeological fieldwork and cutting-edge research to our museum, library, archives, publications, educational programs, membership, volunteers, digital resources, and many others!—in a more accessible and engaging online experience.
The new website is the product of more than two years of planning, consultation, design, and development. The process began by listening. ISAC canvassed members of its community and the many audiences who use its website in order to better understand how people engage with the Institute, what they come to the site to find, and where the previous website could better serve them.
To turn that input into a new digital experience, ISAC partnered with Stauffer, a digital strategy, design, and development firm that worked closely with the Institute throughout the process. From initial assessment and planning through information architecture, design, development, and implementation, Stauffer helped ISAC rethink not only how the website should look, but how it should organize and present the extraordinary range of scholarship, collections, programs, and resources produced across the Institute. Their expertise, creativity, and collaborative approach were instrumental in transforming a complex set of institutional needs into a website that is clearer, more flexible, and better equipped for the future.
The new website was designed to make it easier to discover both the breadth of ISAC’s work and the connections among its projects, people, collections, and resources. Visitors can explore current research from across the Institute, learn more about our faculty and staff, discover upcoming events and programs, access publications and digital projects, and find information about visiting and supporting ISAC.
Behind the new design is a broader effort to improve how ISAC shares its scholarship online. The website has been rebuilt with greater attention to accessibility, mobile use, navigation, long-term sustainability, and the growing importance of digital research at the Institute. It also provides a more flexible foundation for new features, projects, and resources in the years ahead.
This launch represents an important milestone, but not an endpoint. ISAC’s website encompasses an enormous range of information accumulated over many years, and we will continue refining content, improving connections, adding research projects and resources, and responding to feedback as the site develops.
Whether you are visiting ISAC for the first time, searching for a publication or collection record, following an archaeological project, planning a museum visit, or returning to resources you have used for years, we hope the new website makes it easier to explore the work of the Institute.
Welcome to the new isac.uchicago.edu—and to a new way of exploring ISAC!
Previous Versions of the ISAC Website
The old website is not gone! Previous versions of the ISAC website have been preserved through ISAC’s Archive-It channel, ensuring that its content remains available as part of the Institute’s digital history even as ISAC moves to a new web platform.
