Overview

The Iranian Prehistoric Project investigates the development of early communities and complex societies in Fars Province, southwestern Iran. Combining archaeological survey, excavation, and ethnoarchaeological study of Qashqai mobile pastoralists, the project explores changing settlement patterns, the relationship between mobility and the Bakun cultural horizon, and the role of pastoralism in prehistoric social development. Research includes work at Tall-e Bakun A and B, Tall-e Jari A and B, and Tall-e Mushki in the Marv Dasht region.
