Medinet Habu Graffiti: Facsimiles

Medinet Habu Graffiti: Facsimiles publishes more than one hundred plates documenting graffiti found at Medinet Habu, the great mortuary temple complex of Ramesses III at Thebes. The inscriptions and images range widely in date, language, and purpose, spanning the long history of the site from ancient Egyptian religious life to its later Christian use. Produced from fieldwork carried out between 1928 and 1933, the volume preserves hieroglyphic, hieratic, Demotic, Coptic, and other inscriptions, along with key plans showing their locations. Although many of the graffiti are modest or fragmentary, together they offer a vivid record of the people who visited, used, and reinterpreted this monumental place over many centuries.
