About
J. Brett McClain is a Research Associate of ISAC and Field Director of the Institute’s Epigraphic Survey, based at Chicago House in Luxor, Egypt, where he has served on the expedition staff since 1998. A specialist in the hieroglyphic inscriptions of the New Kingdom, the Late and Ptolemaic dynasties, and the Roman era, his research focuses on the documentation and publication of inscribed material from both standing and fragmentary monuments, and he is the author of numerous publications on ritual, cosmological, and commemorative texts from the temples of ancient Thebes.

The Epigraphic Survey documents, conserves, and publishes the inscriptions and reliefs of ancient Egyptian monuments, preserving the temples and tombs of Luxor for scholars and the public.
