Overview

The Epigraphic Survey, based at Chicago House in Luxor, Egypt, is ISAC’s longest-running field expedition. Since 1924, the Survey has worked to document and publish ancient Egypt’s hieroglyphic records by producing photographs, facsimile line drawings, and textual and iconographic studies of the carved reliefs and inscriptions of ancient Thebes. The resulting publications represent the highest standard of epigraphic research, ensuring that the information contained in the texts and scenes from Egypt’s pharaonic era will be preserved for future generations. In recent years, our projects have expanded to incorporate cataloguing and analysis of thousands of inscribed fragments, along with conservation, restoration, site management, and conservation training programs to address critical threats to the physical preservation of Egypt’s ancient heritage.
