This talk will describe the changes in Jerusalem's urban landscape from Byzantine to early Islamic times using archaeological data retrieved from hundreds of excavations conducted in and around Jerusalem. It will address questions of continuity and change of the city's population, looking at the crystallization of ethnically oriented quarters and the division of lands between Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities.
