Jointly sponsored by the Franke Institute CDI and EALC as part of the seminar “Nomads, Networks, and Political Complexity”
The original Bronze Age of the Eastern Eurasian steppe differs in several ways from the classic late Bronze and Early Iron Age of the region that is known for its distinctive design styles and charismatic monuments. This talk will present examples from ongoing work of the settlement systems and monumental landscapes of the earliest Bronze Age inhabitants of the Southeast Gobi of Mongolia. Data will be drawn from the Dornod Mongol Survey (2013 - present) and Baga Gazaryn Chuluu project (2003-2008) as well as other landscape archaeology in the region.
