As reported in an article on "Mummy Figures" by Lydialyle Gibson for the University of Chicago Magazine, the Oriental Institute recently inventoried its collection of mummies. 89 mummies, or fragments thereof, reside in the museum's collection. 13 of the mummies are human and the rest belong to animals including 29 birds, 27 crocodiles, four cats, two snakes, and one monkey paw.
