The Oriental Institute and the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations of the University of Chicago invite applications for an open-rank tenure-track, or tenured, faculty position in Mesopotamian archaeology.
The earliest date the appointment is anticipated to begin is July 2020; applications will be accepted and considered until the position is filled. Review of applications will begin after January 15th.
Applications are welcome from scholars with a research focus in archaeological excavation and fieldwork, preferably of the Mesopotamian historical periods. Engagement in the technologies and methodologies of landscape archaeology is also highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to eventually direct the excavations of the Nippur expedition. She or he should be able to teach a wide range of courses on Mesopotamian material culture, civilization, and history at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to supervise B.A. and M.A. theses and Ph.D. dissertations, and to carry out independent research and publication.
The successful applicants must hold the Ph.D. degree before the appointment begins.
