Persepolis and Ancient Iran, containing about 900 photographs printed from the original field negatives, gives a comprehensive pictorial chronicle of archaeological sites in ancient Iran. Some of the photographs were taken during 1931–34 under Professor Ernst Herzfeld, but most date from 1934–39, when Professor Erich F. Schmidt was field director of the Iran expeditions of the Oriental Institute (now the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures).

A large number of photographs included in this text/fiche have never before been published. Others have been included in University of Chicago Press publications.
