Alain Bresson Wins James Henry Breasted Prize for 2017
Alain Bresson, Robert O. Anderson Distinguished Service Professor, Department of Classics and Department of History, a world leader in ancient economy, has won the American Historical Association’s James Henry Breasted Prize for 2017, for his 2016 book The Making of the Ancient Greek Economy: Institutions, Markets, and Growth in the City-States.

The Oriental Institute will host a screen in Breasted Hall of Letters from Baghdad, the story of a true original — Gertrude Bell (1868–1926)— sometimes called the “female” Lawrence of Arabia, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm.
