This volume contains eleven brief monographs summarizing what Mr. von der Osten saw during his survey in 1926, especially in the bend of the Halys River, and is a useful contribution to Hittite studies. Two more volumes (OIP 6-7) dealing with the Alishar Hüyük Season of Exploration in 1927 were announced to follow shortly. Such a record of work, in a region where the continued existence of antiquities is imperiled by any attention drawn to them, was of great importance to archaeologists as a guide for their labors; itinerant students necessarily desire to limit their luggage, and it seems a pity that the book could not have been issued in a more easily portable form. Mr. von der Osten's journey in Asia Minor lasted nearly three months, and the distances covered were 4,428 kilometers by automobile, and 179 kilometers on foot or horseback.
